Segerstrom shuts out Century

After a tough loss last week to Tehachapi, visiting Segerstrom bounced back with a dominating performance Friday night against Century, 49-0.

The Jaguars used a bruising running attack to amass 450 yards. Century had a hard time getting anything going, finishing with 105 yards of offense.

The game was over before the second half started with Segerstrom going into halftime with a 35-0 lead. Robert Soncrant led the Jaguars in rushing with 77 yards on four carries

Segerstrom jumped all over Century early when quarterback Brian Murrieta found wideout Atlas Smith in the corner of the end zone in the first quarter to take a 7-0 lead. Smith finished with two catches for 48 yards and two touchdowns."

Next weeks game is at Segerstrom. We will be playing Laguana Hills Show your support and join us at Jaguar Stadium at 7 p.m.

Congratulations to The Segerstrom Jaguar Football team and coaches for extending their season into their first round of CIF playoffs. This is Segerstrom High Schools third year with Varsity and for their first time will go to CIF.

Segerstrom Vs. Santa Ana High School

The Jaguars (5-4) battled adversity all night, but unfortunately came up short versus visiting Santa Ana, 35-34 Friday night. Offensively, Frankie Partida opened up the game with a long touchdown run to put the Jaguars ahead. Justin Mills and Brian Murrietta both added long touchdown runs as well. The offense put up over 400 yards of total offense and 34 points, but were kept out of the end zone the whole fourth quarter. This was the Jaguars downfall with the game coming down to the last drive, where the Jaguars were unable to convert on fourth down.

Defensively, solid performances were turned in by Pedro Huerta, Ricardo Cachua and Flavio Hernandez who were around the ball all night. Robert Nunez led the team in tackles from his linebacker position. The Jaguars look to rebound against visiting Saddleback next Friday and earn a spot in the CIF playoffs.

On November 6th the Junior Varsity Jaguars traveled to Santa Ana High to face the Saints. This was an important game for the Jaguars since both teams entered the contest undefeated. The Jaguar offense started out strong scoring on their first offensive drive. QB Max Padilla hooked up with Mynor Garcia for a 42 yard touchdown pass to start the scoring. The offense was led by the hard work of the offensive line that stopped the Saints pass rush and opened up holes for running backs Gary Ferman (1 TD), and Robert Soncrant Jr. (3 TDs). The Jaguar defense again played an important role in the victory. On several of the Saints offensive drives, the Jaguar D held its ground and kept them out of the endzone. One key stop came late in the game when the Jaguars stopped the Saints on the one yard line after four attempts to score. The defense helped to seal the victory by intercepting a pass as the Saints were driving with less than 2 minutes left in the game. Final score 33-21. The Jaguars are 4-0 in league and look to finish the season with their final league game against Saddleback High on November 13th.

The Jaguars (5-3) came up short in a hard fought battle for first place against Westminster, 33-28 Thursday night. The defense played tough all night rallying to the ball setting up many third down situations. This is how Westminster was able to use up the clock controlling the time of possession throughout the game. Outstanding efforts were turned in at all positions for the Jaguars.
On the offensive side of the ball, the Jaguars scored four touchdowns on seven possessions. Unfortunately, it was the three non scoring drives plagued by mistakes and turnovers that ultimately made the difference. Still, Justin Mills made every play count when the ball was in his hands, leading the Jaguars in rushing. Frankie Partida was the scoring leader, by receiving a touchdown pass from Brian Murrietta and rushing for two more. The Jaguars look to rebound against visiting city rival Santa Ana next Friday night

On October 31st, the Junior Varsity Jaguars held their third league game versus the Westminster Lions at Jaguar Stadium. The Jaguars came out looking to add to their winning record. From the start of the game until the final whistle, the Jaguars were in control of the Lions. The Jaguars scored a total of 35 points in this contest. The Offense was led by Roland De La Cruz, Robert Soncrant Jr. (1 TD), Max Padilla, Mynor Garcia (1 TD), Gary Ferman (2 TDs), and the entire offensive line which created holes for the backs to run through. The Jaguars also scored through the air. Wide receiver Eric Acuna had his first touchdown reception at the end of the first half. Tight End Paul Moreno got into the act with three key receptions on third and long situations for the Jaguars.
The defensive unit picked up right where it left off from last week. The Jaguar defense held the Lions to only two offensive touchdowns. The Lions tried for two point conversions on each of their touchdowns, but were unable to convert. The Jaguar defense was led by Luis Lopez, Brian Aguilar, Sergio Mejia, Atlas Smith, Ramon Aguilar, and Fidel Avalos. Corner Jeffrey Chinchilla had a momentum changing interception late in the second quarter and gave the offense good field position on the return. Overall, every member of the defense had an impressive day. Final score 35-12.

On October 30, the Jaguar freshmen football team continued their march toward the Golden West League title with an away game versus the Westminster Lions. The Jaguar freshmen program has never beat the Lions in their three previous encounters. However, this year, it would be different. The Jaguars started the scoring with a touchdown run by H-back Robert Sevilla. With a successful 2-point conversion, the Jaguars lead 8-0 early in the first quarter. Later, the Jaguars will add to their lead with 2 touchdown runs by fullback Gabriel Roa. However, both extra points failed, which brought the score to 20-0 in favor of the visiting Jaguars going into the half. After halftime, the Lion's offense then put together a drive of their own that resulted in a TD pass and successful 2 point conversion to cut the lead to 12. However, on the ensuing kickoff, Elisha Thomas would receive the ball and raced 70 yards for a Jaguar TD. However, the extra point attempt failed, bringing the score to 26-8. The Jaguars would add to their lead when defensive end Rubern Martinez caused a fumble which defensive end Charles Mankin scooped up and raced 40 yards for a touchdown. The successful 2 point attempt would bring the score to 34-8. The Lions would add a late score against the reserve defense to bring the final score to 34-14. With this win against the Lions, the Segerstrom Jaguar freshmen football brought their record to 8-0 and 3-0 in league.

The Jaguars (5-2) spoiled Orange’s homecoming Thursday night with a 49-0 shutout. After both teams exchanged turnovers, Frankie Partida provided the spark to get the offense going. Outstanding performances were turned in by Aaron Amrine who led the Jaguars with 146 yards rushing and Justin Mills who scored three touchdowns. Matt Navarro and the offensive line provided another solid performance pacing the Jaguars for another 400 yards of total offense.
Defensively, the entire unit played assignment football. The Jaguars swarmed to the ball all night forcing three turnovers. Flavio Hernandez returned his interception for a touchdown, while Travis Williamson’s interception and Pedro Huerta’s fumble recovery established momentum. The special teams unit also flew to the ball with Manny Gonzalez and Robert Soncrant making big hits on the kick off
team. Johnny Miranda was perfect in all of his extra point attempts.
The Jaguars look to build on this type of team effort next Thursday night versus Westminster.


Albert Martinez #58 was injured in practice this week and will be out for the season. However, he and his family continue to support the Jaguars. Awaing surgery Albert rolls out to the game to support his teammates. Thanks to the Martinez Family for all their hard work and support!

On October 24, the Junior Varsity Jaguars held their second league contest at Jaguar Stadium. The Jaguars were looking to build on their winning ways against Orange High School. The Jaguars came out strong scoring 47 points while holding Orange to 14 points. The Jaguars were lead offensively by Josh Espinoza, Roland De La Cruz, Gary Furman, Robert Soncrant Jr., and Max Padilla, all scoring one TD each, while Mynor Garcia found the end zone twice. The Jaguar defense had another impressive effort by every member, holding Orange to only one offensive score. Orange scored its second TD on special teams. Final

The Junior Varsity Jaguars had a few mental mistakes during the game.
The Jaguars look to fix their mistakes this week in practice, while preparing for their next contest against Westminster and working towards their goal of a League Championship.

On October 23, the Jaguar freshmen football team continued their quest for the Golden West League title with a match up against the Orange Panthers. The Jaguars offense was surprised when Orange defense stopped them and forced a punt on their first possession. However, with a few adjustments, the Jaguars offense started to move the ball and scored 14 points before the half with runs by running back Gabriel Roa and quarterback Aaron Morales. After halftime, the Jaguars came out firing on all cylinders starting with a fumble kickoff recovery by Joseph Castro that set up a touchdown run by Gabriel Roa. The defense also got into the scoring with a fumble recovery in the end by Ruben Martinez in the third quarter to make the score 21-0 in favor of the Jaguars. The defense showed their dominance over the Panthers by preventing them from getting even 1 first down in the second half and also getting a safety. Gabriel Roa and Stephen Hernandez also scored on touchdown runs later in the 2nd half. When it was all over, the Jaguars beat the Orange Panthers 37-0 to bring their record to 7-0 and 2-0 in league play.

The Jaguars (4-2) shook off some early mistakes to earn their first true homecoming victory, 38-14 over Ocean View. In the first league battle of the season, the Jaguars’ defense brought the intensity. Alfred Tanielu led the charge recording three sacks and 19 tackles setting a school record. The defensive unit also made history swarming Ocean View’s quarterback and setting a team record by forcing 10 sacks.
Offensively, the Jaguars were led by Aaron Amrine who set a school record for most touchdowns in a single game with four. The offensive line battled all night creating both running and passing lanes. Brian Murrietta completed 9 of 12 passes for 128 yards to balance out the attack. The Jaguars finished with over 400 yards of total offense and hope to build on this momentum next week against Orange.
